Streetwear illustration inspired by Faith and Nostalgia
Makrooh, a self-funded arts platform for young British Muslims, commissioned me to design an original T-shirt illustration for their ‘Speak for Yourself’ event in North East London. The creative brief was to develop a bold, unapologetic Muslim mother character, someone who radiates confidence and power. The goal was to represent strength in a culturally resonant, unexpected way that would spark conversation and pride within their community.
I illustrated the character digitally, inspired by the vibrant, punchy palette of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The result is a fierce, charismatic mother figure complete with layered attitude and expressive flair. This project showcases my strength in character design, cultural storytelling, and apparel-ready illustration that grabs attention and connects deeply with a target audience through humour, nostalgia, and bold visual energy.
“The character was exactly what we envisioned – bold, fresh, and unforgettable. It became a standout feature at our event. The illustration helped us celebrate identity with pride and attitude.”
